Hollande, not Cameron, uses his veto

Europe is for life, not just for Christmas, so says French President Francois Hollande.

It’s not just us. It’s not just the European Commission. It’s now one of the people around the negotiating table pointing out there is no possibility whatsoever of EU renegotiation.

This latest intervention is crucial because President Hollande will likely veto any alteration to the course of ever closer union.

So David Cameron returns from yet another summit today with another defeat. He said Banking Union was the chance to secure repatriation of powers. Nothing’s happened. The only shift of power was from Eurozone states to the European Central Bank and the dangerous opportunity of the Eurozone using EU institutions.

Game over. If the Eurozone states start setting precedent by using EU institutions, it’ll be interpreted by the European Court of Justice as EU-wide policy. That’s how we get sucked into it, trapped in a federal European Union.
