For every time David Cameron has said leaving the EU is “imaginable” (once), he has said the UK should remain in the EU hundreds of times.
There was, however, a bit of welcome news yesterday. A reply to a question posed by Lord Stoddart proves what we’ve been saying all along – you can have a simple free trade deal with the EU, recognising common standards, but without having to apply all the rules and regulations of the EU to your statute book.
Put simply, we don’t need the EU’s energy, welfare, immigration rules or anything else not related to breaking down tariff barriers and smoother trade.
To those that will now insist if we left the EU, we’d be governed by fax machine, your case is crumbling before you.
