The EU-enthusiasts say that if we’re not at the “heart of Europe” (yes, they do continue to confuse Europe with the EU) then business will suffer. They bleat that it causes uncertainty, that we won’t be able to go it alone, that we need to be ‘at the table’ to be influential.
As British opinion has never been more hostile to the EU, as talk of leaving the EU is becoming more and more mainstream, it is welcome that Nissan announce £250m worth of investment in Sunderland.
So that’s another myth busted. Small and big businesses alike, confident in our position as one of the strongest economies in the world with links to growing economies, are beginning to recognise our potential on the fringes and outside the EU.
